About Kiyoko and Stewart Hay

East2West Wellbeing is owned by Kiyoko and Stewart Hay.

Kiyoko Suzuki Hay

Kiyoko has had a successful career that began as a teenage student working in restaurants and went on to include working in banking and business administration. She has also interpreted and taught English & Japanese language. Looking for the chance to express her creative side  Kiyoko left Japan to study Textiles at Bolton University where she met Stewart.

Returning to the UK after several years back in Japan Kiyoko was struck by people's interest in Japanese things - even finding Sushi for sale in the local supermarkets. At the same time Kiyoko's own Sushi and Japanese influenced foods were getting rave reviews from friends who tried them at our parties and get togethers. They could taste the difference between the mass produced supermarket Sushi and Kiyoko's Sushi made by hand with natural ingredients and a lot of love! This led to requests to cater for parties and events. And so a business was born!

Kiyoko's food draws on her family recipes and cooking skills learned from her mother & grandmother. Additional influences came via the commune near Tokyo where Kiyoko grew up. There the commune members cooked for one another - frequently using fresh ingredients that had been grown by the commune. This unique background combines with Western influences  and is evident in Kiyoko's food.

Stewart Hay

Stewart's career began in Textiles and he has worked for various companies in Europe, America and Japan. While running his employer's company in Japan Stewart became very aware of the health benefits of the Japanese diet. The Japanese lifespan is around 16 years longer than the world average. Their diet typically includes the consumption of fish, soy protein (in miso, tofu, edamame, natto etc) and green tea on a regular basis. Returning to the UK with Kiyoko we could see that there was a growing interest in Japanese food. This has focused on people enjoying the taste of Sushi. We are commited to bringing great tasting Sushi and Japanese foods to the public. But we are also commited to making people aware of the health benefits as well. You can read more about this on the page About Our Food.

Stewart handles the business side for East2West leaving Kiyoko to focus on developing our range of  nutritious tasty food. In addition Stewart  carries out Business Consultancy projects for various companies.

About Both of Us

In addition to eating our fair share of Sushi we take regular exercise. We have practiced Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong since 1992. These Chinese arts are becoming well known in the West as effective exercise and therapy for a range of ailments. More recently we complemented this with training in the Japanese healing art of Reiki.

In addition, Kiyoko seperately teaches the Buteyko Breathing method having studied this healing system with the founder members of the Buteyko Institute. The completely natural Buteyko method has helped thousands of people around the world to reduce their Asthma symptoms and their medication. It has proven effective for other respiratory conditions too.

For more details about Kiyoko's Buteyko workshops check her website at www.buteykobreathworks.com . You will also find many links to Clinical Studies which confirm the benefits of Buteyko. We see similarities between Buteyko and Tai Chi & Qi Gong (which we both teach) particularly regarding breathing. Buteyko is 100% focused on breathing while Tai Chi and Qi Gong include other aspects. All are reported to improve a wide range of health conditions.

Stewart and Kiyoko teach Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes in the Bury area.

Stewart and Kiyoko offer a range of food and activities to help achieve health and wellbeing.
